How to Tame Rabbits in Minecraft: Find, Feed & Leash
A rabbit is a rare passive mob that was first introduced in Minecraft way back on July 2, 2014, for Java version 1.8.
In the beta version of Minecraft, Rabbits were supposed to be active mobs and when attacked, would burst into pieces and begin bleeding.
It was not received positively by the audience. Hence added to the passive mobs.
The rabbit is a source of rabbit’s foot, rabbit hide, and raw rabbit, however, they will never attack you in the game (Creative or Survival mode).
They can be found in various Overworld biomes and their color depends on their biomes.
No, Minecraft rabbits cannot be tamed. You can lure it and have it as a pet by leading a rabbit with either a carrot, golden carrot, and dandelions or leash into some place where it can’t get out.

Where to Find Rabbits
Rabbits can be found in – Deserts, Flower Forests, Snowy Tundras, Snowy Beaches, Taigas, Giant Tree Taigas, Snowy Taigas, and Frozen Rivers.
There are 6 different variations of Rabbits available, distinguishable by their fur color.
For example, Rabbits that spawn in Snowy Plains, Snowy Taiga, Grove, Snowy Slopes, Frozen River, Frozen Ocean, and Snowy Beach are White and black/white in color.
Rabbits that are found in the Desert have Yellow furs.
Flower Forest, Taiga, Meadow, Old Growth Spruce Taiga, and Old Growth Pine Taiga will have Black, brown/white, and brown rabbits.
When Rabbits spawn, they will be in small groups of 1-3 Rabbits. Out of which is an adult and the 2 kits are baby bunnies.
Rabbit Drops
Hunting a rabbit in Minecraft will drop loot when they die – raw rabbit, rabbit hide, and if you are very lucky, a rabbit’s foot.
- 0-1 Rabbit Hide
- 0-1 Raw Rabbit
- 1 Lucky Rabbits Foot
- 1-3 XP Orbs when killed by a player or tamed wolf
Make sure you pick up the items before it disappears. Once you pick up the item, it will appear in your hotbar.
They are very useful and should be kept in your inventory to be used later.
Note: A rabbit’s foot is a very rare drop. Presumably, a rabbit’s foot will give the potion its jump boost effect because rabbits hop around rather than walk.
