How to Craft Pumpkin Seeds in Minecraft

Step 1: Open the 3×3 Crafting Table

First of all, load up your crafting menu options of the 3×3 crafting grid with 9 grids in total.

Step 2: Add Pumpkin to Craft Pumpkin Seeds

In the crafting grid, Place 1 pumpkin in any of the boxes.

Just for this example, in the 2nd row, place 1 Pumpkin on the crafting table.

There are a few ways to get Pumpkin seeds naturally in the world.

1. Harvesting Pumpkins (4 Seeds)

They Generate in most biomes of the world with greenery requiring a grass block below and an air block above. They can also be found and grow in the Snow layers.

Find a Pumpkin and shear it to get 4 Pumpkin seeds and the husk will turn into a carved Pumpkin.

Pumpkin can also be found in the Woolen Tents which is an outpost of the Pillagers. You can also find them in 15.6% of the shipwrecks in stacks of 1-3.

2. Pumpkin Stems (0-3 Seeds)

You can also get Pumpkin Seeds by breaking down a Pumpkin Stem. You cannot get the stem to your inventory.

So, chop the stem down to get 0-3 Pumpkin seeds, depending on the age of the stem.

Pumpkin and Pumpkin Stems can be found in the Stem Rooms of Woodland Mansion, Taiga Villages and Snowy Taiga Villages.

3. Trade with Villagers

To start trading, you’ll first need to find a wandering trader. They have a chance of selling Pumpkin and Pumpkin Seed for an emerald which is quite expensive.

The NPC trader will often follow you along with his group of pet llamas.

You can also sell back Pumpkins to an Apprentice-level Farmer villagers for an emerald with 6 pumpkins.

4. Chest

You can also find Pumpkin seeds in Chests such as the

  • Taiga Village Chest with a percentage chance of 40.6%,
  • Dungeon Chest (18.5%),
  • Minecart chests in Mineshafts (31.6%)
  • Woodland Mansion Chest (18.5%)

How to Grow Pumpkin for Pumpkin Seeds

TIP: Pumpkins can only be planted on farmland which is created by tilling grass and dirt.

The Pumpkin seeds will first grow into stems and later on into full-grown size Pumpkins.

Step 1: Find a Land with Water

Locate an area of land with water. Next, we are gonna prepare the land.

Step 2: Till the land with Hoe

Select the hoe in the Hotbar to create the land into farmland ready for plantation.
