Materials to Make a Bow
To make a Bow in Minecraft, you need
- 3 Sticks and
- 3 Strings.
Sticks
Making sticks in Minecraft is quite easy.
You would first need wood logs and turn them into planks. Next, convert those planks into sticks. (2 planks = 4 sticks)
How to make sticks in Minecraft:
- Find a tree.
- Punch the tree.
- Pick up the blocks
- Open your crafting interface.
- Drop the log in the crafting grid.
- Remove the logs from your crafting menu
- Place two planks oriented vertically, with one at the top and the other immediately below it.
- Move your sticks from the crafting results to your inventory.
String
A string is a Minecraft item collected from killing Spiders, breaking Cobwebs, and/or dungeon Chests.
To gather String in Survival Mode:
- Find a Spider
- Attack the Spider
- Chase and kill the spider.
- When the spider is killed, it will drop either string or spider eye.
- Pick up a String and add it to your inventory.

Another way to get String is to Craft it. But this works only in Bedrock Edition and Education Edition.
It will require 1 Cobweb as a main ingredient which can be harder to find sometimes. However, If you have cobwebs, you can convert them into a string.

Step 1: Open the 3 x 3 crafting Grid
Step 2: Arrange the materials in the following pattern:
- In the upper Row 1: empty box, stick, string

Step 3: This will give you 1 Bow and starts with 384 durability points.

However, it can be enchanted for more effects.
How to Repair Your Bow
Unlike the other tools and weapons in the game, Bow cannot be repaired in Minecraft. The only way to repair a bow is by combining it with other bows directly from the crafting slots in the player’s inventory or on a crafting grid.
Another thing to note is that combining 2 bows will increase the durability at +5% of a Bow’s max durability (19 points).
