5 Methods to Reload Chunks in Minecraft: See Chunk Borders
When you measure in real life, you do it either KM or Miles.
However, when it comes to Minecraft, Chunks is a measurable unit with 16×16 blocks wide and 384-block-tall used by the world generator to divide maps into smaller manageable chunks.

Reloading Chunks in Minecraft is necessary when your virtual world file gets too crowded and complicated.
When you are crafting a large world and sometimes it can get crowded. An example of getting complex would be if a block shows up where it’s not meant to be and disappear where you place a block.
You can wipe a bunch of chunks from the Forest or any area you like with the MCA Selector and remove the clogging by refreshing the chunks to solve the issue.
How to Reload Chunks in Minecraft
There are 5 Methods to refresh Chunks in the game. We will discuss each of the troubleshooting guides in detail below.
Method 1: Use Reload Chunk Shortcut Key (Java edition)
- Press and hold the F3 + A Key on your keyboard.
- You will see their Minecraft virtual new world reloading
- Wait till it is completed (duration will depend on how fast/ slow your hard drive is)
Method 2: Use Reload Command
Make sure to enable cheats for your world to run commands.
- Open the Chat Window
- Enter the Command – /reload
- Select the Enter key to run the reload command.
- If performed correctly, a “Successfully reloaded loot tables, advancements, and functions” message will appear on the screen.
Your loot tables, advancements, and functions have been reloaded.
Method 3: Restart Minecraft Launcher
There are 3 ways to restart the launcher.
- Method 1 – Select the launcher client that has frozen and press Alt + F4 on your keyboard.
- Method 2 – Press and Hold Ctrl + Alt + Delete on your keyboard and click on Task Manager. Right-click on the Minecraft launcher and select End Task.
- Method 3 – If the above doesn’t work, Restart your PC.
Relaunch the Game without any shader or resource packs:
- Disable the resource packs/ Shaders/ Mods
- Quit the Game completely
- Next Launch Minecraft again.
- Enable the game modifications one by one to find the culprit manually.
Method 4: Adjust Your Render Distance Accordingly
A Minecraft world consists of millions of chunks. So, if your Hardware cannot handle the resources for a low graphic card, CPU, etc, it might cause a glitchy issue.
So, you need to adjust by lowering or increasing the distance for the chunk in the video settings of the game to load properly.
To Lower your render distance:
- Open debug screen
- Hold Shift and
- Select F3 + F
To Increase your render distance:
- Open debug screen
- Hold F3 and click F
Method 5: Uninstall Unnecessary Shader mods
TIP: Make a backup of your world.
- Connect to your server via FTP
- Go to the Mods folder.
- Delete the Mods
- If you are using Forge Server, you will need to confirm the removal in the console.
- Open up the server and Search for ‘[Server thread/WARN]: Forge Mod Loader detected missing registry entries.’
- Confirm the removal by entering the command /fml to confirm
How to Refresh chunks in Minecraft Bedrock
Since F3+A is not available to reload in the Bedrock edition, so your best bet is to quit and relaunch the game.
Alternatively, you can use software to perform the action.

Difference between Resetting and Reloading Chunks
There’s a difference between Reloading Chunks and Refreshing Chunks. Resetting Chunks is to clear space for new updates. When you reset Chunks, the selected world gets reset.
Reloading Chunk to solve the glitch and returns them to the previous state.

How to see chunk borders in Minecraft Java Edition
To see Chunk Borders in Minecraft, Press and hold F3 + G on your keyboard.
A notification will pop out with the message that borders are being shown, and a multicolored wireframe border will appear around your chunk.
Note that the colored wireframe appears only around the chunk you’re standing in. Pressing F3 + G again in another chunk to see their border.
How to see chunk borders in Minecraft Bedrock Edition
- Open your Bedrock world and press Start or Esc (depending on if you are using a PC or Console)
- Go to Settings < Game
- Select World Options and toggle on Show Coordinates options.
- Go back to the game and you’ll see your character’s XYZ coordinates in the top-left corner of the screen.

Each Chunk has a total of 98,304 blocks, they are 16×16 blocks wide and long with 384 blocks tall.
